Day 29 - O'Cebreiro to Triacastela

We are now at Triacastela with 139.5km to go until we complete our trek from St Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in NW Spain.

Today, we had a late start from O Cebreiro before we walked to Triacastela as we wanted to watch the morning sun on the mountains.

It was well worth the wait and the late start.

The walk down the mountain was also great as it was generally on narrow paved and unpaved mountain tracks that wound down into valleys and up hills.

The landscape was therefore constantly changing but again, too grand to bottle into a photo.

We also went through many villages and hamlets, probably more than we have had on any single previous day.

At times we had to fight for space on the road/track as we had either cows, or carts of hay trying to contest us for the road.

Also, the road, mostly in the hamlets, was carpeted with cow manure both fresh and matured. Lovely! I imagine, after time, you get used to the smell.

We had several, probably too many, stops for coffee and at one stage had a slice of chicken and vegetable pie. It was great with a wonderful crispy crust.

There are many people on the road now, many that we have met in the last 29 days and a lot of others who have started the Camino in the last couple of days.

We are told that many people, especially Spanish, will do the last 100km of the Camino from Sarria, the next town, as this entitles them to say they have done the Camino.

We therefore expect the numbers on the road to swell significantly from tomorrow.

Tomorrow we walk the 25km to Sarria, which ends the 7th stage of our eight stage journey from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela. We will then have 115 km remaining to complete the Camino.

It will be nice to finish the journey but, in reality, we are having so much fun, we do not want it to end.

The weather continues to be kind to us.
