In Belorado the previous evening we found a number of cast hand and foot prints embedded in the street from famous persons, one of which was Emilio Estevez.
We left Belorado at 7am this morning as there was no sign of the hotel owner who had promised to have breakfast for us at that time.
The morning light as we left town was beautiful.
There were several towns along today's path but the first two towns were not yet open for business and therefore breakfast was in the third town after about 9kms walking. Coffee and Tortilla (more of an egg and potato frittata).
During the majority of this 9km stretch we walked with some Queenslanders (2 brothers and a sister) who were walking the Camino together. Prior to this, two of them had been trekking in South America having a gap year.
Shortly after our breakfast stop we approached the Oca Mountains which comprised of a good uphill walk for several kilometres and a triple summit (ie we had to climb to the top three times).
Most of the trek across the mountains, which were more of a big hill, was through lush woodlands with lots of fern undergrowth and flowers.
We arrived in San Juan De Ortega before noon and resigned ourselves to a slow afternoon.
The day was cool with a strong breeze and there is a forecast for evening thunderstorms.
In total today we walk 24km in 5h for an average pace of 4.9km/hr. Our highest elevation today was 1160 metres above sea level.
Tomorrow we have a 26km walk to Burgos at which point several of the people who we have been spending time with have to leave to get back to work. It will be a shame to see them go but I am sure we will meet many other new people on the road.
