Day 16 - Castrojeriz to Fromista

We had one of worst nights sleep last night.

Saggy bed, a hot airless room and a noisy street outside.

Finally, when it at last cooled off, Vicki wanted to get up early and start walking.

Restaurant was not open (until 8am) so we set off at 7am with no breakfast.

The first feature of today's 25.2km walk from Castrojeriz to Fromista was a 3km hike to the top of the plateau some 140 metres above the town of Castrojeriz.

This proved a faster way to kick start the heart than a cup of coffee.

Our reward for walking up the hill was a great morning view of the grain fields and windmills.

The majority of the rest of the walk alternated between grain crops, vegetable crops and sunflowers.

Fortunately we found our first sunflowers which were in flower.

Our average pace today was quite slow, 4.5 km/hr as we stopped on the road for both breakfast and lunch.

The last 3km into Fromista we walked alongside a large canal which is used to irrigate the vegetable crops.

Our hotel is adjacent to the central plaza but at first glance appears to be another hot airless room, but we hope not.
